greasy brake shoes

Pulled my rear drums to check a recent brake rebuild to find that one of my rear axle seals is bad and the brake shoes,etc are covered with 600w. I fixed the axle seals, and now need to put things back together. Does anyone know of a proven way to degrease my nearly new woven brake linings ? Thanks for any advise, Benny.
