Hi Doug,

I haven't done any wheel restoration or tire mounting but I have read an article or two about using a plastic garbage bag over the rim of the wheel. The plastic acts as a lubricating barrier between the bead and the rim.I believe the bags to use are the ones coated with a light dusting of talcum powder to keep them from sticking to each other. It's my understanding that it works great.Use the method described earlier about working the tire on from the rear of the wheel, but use the bag. When the wheel is on simply pull out the bag and voila, No Chipped Rims.

Good Luck,

Kevin Daly
