: hello,

: when i was painting my wheels, i was careful
: not to build any primer or paint in the lug nut areas
: and the rim edges as recommended in the
: wheel restoration article in vol 2 of
: _how to restore your model "a"_.

: now that the wheels are finished, i
: started to mount the tubes and tires today.

: even though i was careful with my tire iron
: and was working from the backside of the wheel,
: i still managed one or two chips on each
: rim.

: my question is that if even careful use of
: the tire iron will chip the paint on the rims,
: what precautions do i need to take when
: tightening down the lug nuts so that the
: paint here does not chip as well?

:
: thanks,

Hi Doug,
Most poly and enamel paints as you know are brittle,to overcome this try touching up the nicks and using Plasti-Dip Spray-on Heavy Duty Flexable Rubber Coating available in clearspray cans or qrts. Will need several applications around lug holes. Product claims-won't crack.chip or peel, acid and salt resistant, etc.I have used this for several different uses.Found it at local hardware building supply outlet in handtool dept. They use it also to dip handles of handtools.Uses because it is a spray on rubber it also can be used to waterproof and insulate.Test it out and let me know how you like it? Mfg by PDI Inc.1-612-785-2156.Mn.
Best Regards,
Fred
