gary,
engine number has no corelation with body type etc. engines were built, numbered, stored, then shipped, then stored again till used.there my by 60-90 days worth of engines in 'float' between the numbering and dropping it in to a frame.judging standards allow 60 prior to the date on the firewall (firewall dates are on 28/29's).so for example a july 29 firewall date could have and engine number from may or june or july of 29.even the frame number is not exact.it only shows the number of the original engine.there may be a number\letter combination on the cross member under the drivers seat.that tells which plant built the body and number of the body. if you are twice lucky to find the letter/number and the letter has been tied to a production plant you can extimated date of production.my tudor was built at the rouge plant in mid 28,i 'guessed' this from the letter id, and the total tudor production for the rouge plant in 1928.i could be full of it.
