: : Working the gas tank on my '30 and I'm thinking about sealing the inside with the products advertised in the catalogs. : : Rust shows up in my sediment bowl and I want try clear this up. : : How clean and rust free should the inside of the tank be before using this slushing compound? How do you clean the inside and are there any negatives to sealing the tank? : : These might be dumb questions, but I only have one tank : : Thanks for any advice.- Michael D : : I believe the key was the prep before the sealers. I spent a few days getting the big particles dislodged. Well, here's a Deusey!! Put about a half-gallon of small sharp gravel in that baby. Shake the dicken's out of it off and on for a few days. There once was an article in the Model A News or Restorer of a guy who made a cradle on wheels and rolled it down a hill several times!! Empty the gravel out and wash it with mineral spirits then laquer thinner. I prefer to slosh them being sure you get to all the seams and all the sides, The Eastwood slosh works fine, so do many others. I prefer the one's that have a yellowy, clear look rather than the white, chalky type; I'm not sure exactly what I'm gettin' when I get it. |
