How to tell water level in Radiator?

Posted by James Shotwell on July 28, 1998 at 22:16:28

I recently installed a Quail temp radiator cap however I still have a hard time determining what the level of water in the radiator is. After a 20 mile ride I have to add a pint to bring it up so I can see it just above the baffle plate.

Anyone ever heard of a CLEAR top radiator hose? Atleast that way I could ck the water level at a glance.
I suspect the pint of water went out the overflow hose. I already put in the parts store rad cleaner and drove for 30 minutes then flushed.Running distilled water and rust preventative only this time of year. From reading the other
overheating messages I am beginning to suspect my radiator needs a profession boiling out.Oh yea one more bit of info, its only a pint low is I drive 40 or more,if I stay below 30 then it appears to be ok. I do have thermostate in hose.

Im trying to get ready for my first tour and if this "A" breaks down my wife will be unhappy. And if Mommy ain't.....you guys know the rest..

I hope that Bob C. fellow from Dallas doesnt see my note, I just read one of his responses.....I too just bought a beautiful restoredmodel A and I don't know zip about them.
But I'm learning.....
