i think i remember someone using a little right- angle fitting for the purpose---this was a little brass block which was held to the wheel cyl by a "hollow bolt" sort of part, and had a suitably drilled/tapped hole for the tubing fitting at right angles or nearly so.

this is only a vague memory---but i think there was a tight-clearance situation which required fitting the cylinder and this angled part to the backplate before the backplate was fitted to the axle. --- i'm not too sure about this, tho-- i could be remembering -- or mis-remembering -- some other conversion job on some other make.
