G'Day Gordon, I'm not sure what voltage the points should close at, but you'll probably find that the battery charger doesn't have enough puff to pull the contact plate down with 6v, so switch it to 12v & with the posotive lead on the base, flash the negative lead onto the terminal that forms part of the frame for the cutout coil. If you look for the 2 thin wires, this is the pull in coil. As it's not a regulator, but merely a cutout, the charge rate is totally dependant on the position of the third brush. Regardz DJ.
