G'Day Gordon,
I'm not sure what voltage the points should close at, but you'll probably find that the battery charger doesn't have enough puff to pull the contact plate down with 6v, so switch it to 12v & with the posotive lead on the base, flash the negative lead onto the terminal that forms part of the frame for the cutout coil. If you look for the 2 thin wires, this is the pull in coil. As it's not a regulator, but merely a cutout, the charge rate is totally dependant on the position of the third brush.

: With the cut-out off of the generator, and apart, is there a simple bench test that can be made to assess if the contact points are closing at the appropriate moment?Or, does one require a sophisticated load-bearing device in order to place unequal loads on both terminals?

: I was hoping that I could place a battery charger on one side of the cut-out to effect a closing of the points.

: Thanks much.
