A different whistle valve?

The valve attached to my whistle seems to be different than the one described.Mine is very heavy-duty, and has male/female flanges that appear to be designed to attach between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust.Has anyone else seen one like this?This particular Aermore was patented in 1912 and has never been used. The sound is beautiful. I had a friend hold it against the tailpipe on my wife's Isuzu Trooper...awesome sound for a Model A fan who is also a life-long railroad buff!
Any suggestions out there?
