you probably don't have any damage at all.
your generator will need to be repolarized, however.
first, disconnect the battery terminals.
then, remove the wire going to the cut out.
reconnect the battery. use a jumper
lead connected to the negative terminal
of the battery and touch the other
end of the jumper lead to the generator
terminal momentarily.you should get
a blue flash -- when you do, your polarity
is correct.
