Duane, I am a Quality Engineer in the transmission plant that manufactured the "AA" transmission so I've seen a lotof problems as well as having opened a dozen or so "A" transmissions at home and I would say your problem is in the area of the pilot bearing inside of the input gear or the mainshaft pilot. Two reasons: 1. You said that it was quiet in high and that is when it is hooked up with the input with a one to one output. 2. That area wears out as fast as anything in the transmission. Look at the bearing race in theinput and you will probably find a lot of brinelling (marks from the needles). Next take a look at the pilot that goes in the input and you will probably see major wear. Hope this helps. If not where are you located? Maybe one of us can stop by and take a look. Good Luck!
