: Follow up to message posted 7/2/98 : Transmission was replaced and noise is eliminated. :Upon tear down of old transmission no noticable : problems are evident. All bearings and shafts are : new. Gears are not, but are all good to excellent : shape.People other than myself have inspected : the parts and we're stumped. : Any body have any ideas besides a BOAT ANCHOR. : Thanks, --------------------------------------- Duane, You say shafts are new?Does this include the main shaft? If so I would consider it suspect and would check for excessive play at the mainshaft front pilot bearing at the main drive gear (pilot shaft). Also the sliding gears should be a tight but smooth slip fit on the spline of the main shaft. A long shot (I'm not sure about effects), but the transmission cases prior to '29 (+/-) required thrust washers between the countershaft gear (cluster) and the case, one each front & rear.If these are missing there will be approximately 1/8" clearance for the gear to move fore and aft. Keep looking, I gotta know!!! Marco |
