Generally speaking, any engine part that's a casting is painted green (block, head, water pump, water inlet/outlet, etc).Any part that's forged or stamped is black (oil return pipe, carburetor, generator, starter, pulleys, fan, etc). If you're interested in authenticity, get yourself a copy of the MAFCA/MARC Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines available from MAFCA or MARC for $25. Both clubs have web sites where you can go to order them. There's a great table showing all the finishes under the hood, including fasterners like washers, bolts and screws.
