: Thanks for the assistance

: The head is back on, I pulled it off as sugested and inverted the head, cleaned the mess out and soaked it for a couple hours with the penetrating oil.

: I was pleased with what I saw lokking at the topside of the valves & pistons and pulling the sidepan: fairly clean except for a bit of carbon in all 4 chambers and wet carbon at #4.

: Thanks again.

hi, tom

all too often, valves which look perfect at first may have the seating beginning to fail.

if you could see your way clearly to spend some time on them, it would be worthwhile, in my opinion, to have the valves out and have a good look at the valve faces and seats, and lap them in a bit, then check the tappet-clearance. if your engine hasn't been fitted with adjustable tappets, then there's nothing for it but to grind the stems, if needs be.

just a personal opinion, of course, but i think it might be better done whilst the head is off anyway, than risking a burnt valve later.

sorry about that

carla
