Another name for this process is "flame spraying." Simply stated, wire is melted in a very hot flame and the liquid metal is propelled by a hot air to the part being coated. The applicator looks something like a conventional spray gun without a cup. As a design engineer, I have specified this process. In one application, I used aluminum on steel. In another application, I used aluminum on fiberglass. I am not so sure this process lends itself to antique car body applications. Again, it is a coating process, much like using plastic body filler. I would think that modern plastic body fillers have superior adhesion, are easier to work and much less expensive. |
