: Can someone give me the issue of the Restorer which described how to convert the 6 volt starter to 12 volts by rewiring the field coils in series rather than parallel.

Hi Dave..

I really don't think you need to convert your starter to 12 volts by rewiring the field coils.

When I converted my Model A to 12 volts some years ago, I went to the best motor rewind shop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who incidently does a lot of work for our Nuclear Power Plant in Palo, Iowa, and asked them the same question.

They said, "just bring in the starter, and we will bake out the old varnish on the armature and redo it with the new epoxy varnish to compensate for the added heat factor".

Well, it's been years and no problems at all, as my engine starts "now" with 12 volts and the starter is still working well.Your choice..
