With all th carburator leaks on these things, I wonder how many of them burned to the ground in the old days.

Mine did this too.The cause on mine was a combination of the float level set too high and dirt getting in to the needle valve.Check the float level, and make sure the bowl and your tank are clean. While you have it off, you should be able to hold the float all the way up to close the needle valve, and you shouldn't be able to blow or suck air through the fuel line inlet. If you can get air through with the needle valve closed, check the valve and the seat. The fuel level on the Tillotson (as with most carbs) is below the split, so if the needle valve is closing porperly, you shouldn't have any leaks.

Hope this helps.

: I rebuilt my Tilotson carb last winter and now it leaks terribly. It was ok when I first put it on but now a few months later it leaks wicked bad!Is there any solution other than upgrading to a new Zenith?I am afraid to tighten the screws with the pot metal body too much. WE used new gaskets and all new kit parts. The carburator work so well I am reluctant to part with it. Thanks for the help, ED
