What you found is quite common.The halves of the carrier don't have to be replaced as a set, but seem to come easier that way.The problem is that the ring-gear side of the carrier is typically the one that's no good, and there's not a lot of need for the other half.The bearing seat on the ring-gear half tends to wear so that a proper press fit is impossible. Watch for wear on the differential parts though, and try to replace the spider gears as a set (3) since a less worn gear will "Hog" the drive force and could damage the axle gears and itself.Here in Texas the parts are generally pretty available, and not expensive.
