Craig,
There is a large spring in the window riser that offsets the weigth of the window. It is possible that the spring is wound too much, possible to help lift a heavier window or a non-lubed system. If you were to unwind it one turn your window might stay down. But be careful the spring is real powerful and can cause much damage if let loose to unwind.
