High Compression Heads

How about a little controversy?...

Anyone have any opinions about the 5.9-to-1 heads sold through the various parts houses?I've heard stories about valves coming in contact with them, and that they're hard on the bearings.

My '30 Town Sedan has a high speed rear-end in it, so it does fine on flat roads, but terribly going up hills.I'm looking for a way to improve performance without damaging the engine.

What about the transistor ignitions?I suspect they would improve fuel economy by supplying a more consistent burn.

I'd like to keep it "as Henry built it," but I feel vulnerable to being rear-ended in the California foothills. So I'm considering the changes.

Thanks in advance...

Pat
