Door Handles Model 55b Tudor

I am wondering if there is something I might have missed.
I have replaced the interior door opening rods on the inside of the doors on my tudor. Both door lock mechanisms look and work ok. They are liberally lubricated and everythings beaut except......

The outside door handles must be horizontal or the interior locks cannot slide back far enough to fall into place and lock the doors. Unfortunately boththe outside door handles flop up and down about as much as I do (that is about 20 degrees). The only sure way to lock the doors is to wind the window down and turn the outside handle to make it level which is a tad of a drag.

Does anybody know how to fix the handles so they remain level all the time or is this a "feature" of the model A door locks?
It doesn't look real nice having sagging handles. Surely Henry didn't mean it to be this way.

As ever I am most appreciative of any and all ideas.

Love the board Mr Clinton
Hope you have as much success as your Prez seems to!!!
Wonder if there is any relation?

Alex
