Hi Vern.I'm looking for rear bumper brackets for my 1931 SW Fordor, and I've noticed MANY different configurations.I've seen brackets mounted on cars, and they're close to parallel to the ground.

It sound like your brackets may be from some other bodystyle. Measure the bracket that mounts to the underside edge of the body - measure the entire bracket from top to below the rivet that holds it to the bumper arm. I've noted at least 4 different measurements. If this body mounting bracket is the wrong length, the bumper brackets won't fit correctly. It's also possible that the bumper will not be the correct distance from the back edge of the body.

I've found no reference books or papers that show all the different styles and measurements. The best bet is to locate a similar car that has good-fitting bumper brackets (from a couple of cars if you have the opportunity) and take some measurements - then compare them to your brackets.

I measured 6 SW sedans and came up with 3 different brackets (as it turns out, there were two correct brackets for SW sedans but the third one was just wrong.)

If you're coming to Reno in June/July, you'll have lots of opportunities to get those measurements. If not, let me know and as I'm crawling around under those cars during Judging, I'll try to get a 29 Fordor measured. Is yours a Briggs?Murray?Town Sedan?Fordor?Let me know.
