Frank,
Yes you should take the sector thrust screw (side adjustment)
out and you will notice a point caused by the sector wearing at it. File it flat.

The mesh adjustment is best explained in the service bulletins book but I'll try some words.

What is going on here is to take the play out of the sector teeth with respect to the steering worm.

Get the wheels up in the air and steering wheel mid-point.

Something not explained is to make sure the sector housing is loose in order to do the adustment.
There is 4 nuts that have to be loosened, the one that is upper left has the eccentric sleeve hex under it is the adjuster. The nuts may take a turn or two but not off.
Grab yourself a good fitting closed end wrench with some length so you can get a light feel without much effort plus it helps hold the eccentric while tightening the lock nut.
When you are sure the housing is loose sneak the nuts up to where they hold the housing but still can be moved via the eccentric.

To adjust the eccentric it has to be turned to bring the sector to the worm, I think it is clockwise but check the books for sure. Don't get too tight and back off to find adjustment, start over and bring the sector to the worm.
This takes many times to get the adjustment to come in.

Not done yet, when the sector housing nuts are tightened the adjustment can change again. Darn! That's why to sneak them up to minumize the gotcha.

The best description I found is the bulletins and studied every word.

Good luck,
GW
