: : Hi Roger,If I read you correctly, the brass shims you describe may actually be the original bushings made for the axle, 2 per axle.

:Henry, Out of interest and to try and renew my knowledge of the A, I took a look at two axle beams today in my scrap heap and cannot see any bushes fitted into the "eye". I am genuinely interested in this and to that extent also spent a goodly time searching a parts book without success. Are you correct and if so what was the part number for these? As Carla suggests are you possibly misunderstanding Roger? You do however say that there are two bushes per axle as against four king pin bushes per axle.

Hi Mike,
Just got in & noticed your message. It appears that both you & Carla are correct in that Roger was describing worn king pin "eyes" at the end of his axle beam, whereas I was referring to the two (2) worn king pin bushings in the front axle spindle. My apologies. Couldn't imagine axle beam "eyes" wearing, with front spindle bolt locking pin and nut securely holding the king pin in place with no movement; hence, no wear --- I've always been fortunate to have to drive out the king pins with force as opposed to having king pins loose in the axle beam.
Henry
