Thanks for the thoughts.I bought my rebuild kit from either Brattons or Tams (they both sell the steel washer as part of the rebuild kit, I think).You guys have convinced me that if one of the washers has to go for a smooth rotation of the shaft, it should be the steel top one. I can't imagine that a few thousandths of vertical movement would harm anything when it comes to timing.It is the lateral movement that is the killer.Thanks again.
