Fred, I just installed an engine last summer. I found that having the trany attached to the engine worked very well. It was easy to line up the trany with the fly wheel and installationinto the frame was a one man operation. My block was bare ( no- manifolds, generators, distribuators water outlet neck). If you do it this way , you will have toback out the rear axle. Than reinstall rear axle after engine/tranyis inplace.
