: I have a repro glass sediment bowl(USA made)that I am having trouble with as far as leakage. It came with a new seal (neoprene), and I have installed that and have tightened up the bowl fairly tight.I am afraid of making it too tight and putting it under stress and then hitting a bump in the road and having it break.Of course the exhaust manifold and muffler are right below it, an obviously dangerous situation.Any suggestions to stop the leakage? Are the neoprene seals the best kind to use? Thanks for any help.

one other possibility---you might inspect the die-cast filter

housing for flatness on the gasket surface--if the housing is

warped more than a few thousandths the gasket will require

much more pressure than usual in order to compress enough

to seal all the way around--if you recently bought the filter

as a reproduction item, the seller should replace it under

warranty--the cork gasket would be better but look closely--

its possible to find different thicknesses and quality levels

of cork gasket material

hope this helps
