: I thought ... I'll ask here ... new W16Y champion spark plugs ... Brattons suggest .035 ... box suggest .025 ... tryed both ways ... car started and ... runs fine ... gap at .035 got slightly higher top speed or at least I thought it did.
: So what do you experts gap your plugs at?

Hi Jerome:For the "A", Victor W. Page's book and the 1934 "Motors Handbook" says .025".Model "A" Service Bulletin Book:May 1930 says .032" - .035", or gap can be set slightly larger;April 1930 says to change from .027' to .035"; February 1931 says .035".The 1931 "A" owner's manual says .035.Dales said .030" works well for him and he is right in there.
Interesting that on your own, you have noticed higher top speed with .035" as opposed to .025" -- not many people have your keen ability to listen attentively from within to their own experiments!According to April 1994 "Secrets of Speed Magazine", (if you don't mind carrying a spare coil, and don't mind risking coil failure, because of severe coil strain to jump a larger gap), some Model "A" racers use .040" and up to .050" for increased top end speeds.

I always used a little upwards of .035", e.g., 37" or so.

Best wishes, Henry
