Hello Glen,
The response has been good on your question so I'll add just a little.

For those that don't already know, this item is used on all Coupe and Tudor models. The hardwood version works fairly well with a breakage rate of about 10% (in years past). They should be altered slightly for a proper fit of the latch pillar windlace and quarter trim panel. The original rubber version is nearly flush with pillar at the wide part from the striker pocket down. It follows the the angle of the pillar above the striker pocket but was often 1/16" + beyond the steel pillar. The new pieces are usually taller, especially at the angled portion at the top. There is usually space between the steel striker pocket and the back of the wood so it isappropriate to trim from the back side (top & bottom) until the outer surface is near flush with the steel pillar. The angled area at the top can then be shaped from the outside.

Regards,

Marco
