I would suspect that it's going to be just about impossible to find the meter that your looking for, at least at a reasonable price.Try a good electronic supply catalog.
On the hand, in the almost 30 years of owning a Model A, i've only experienced a hot ammeter once andthat was because the inside terminal nuts were loose.If the ammeter is workingproperly it shouldn't get hot.You might also try an alternator since that it will do a better job maintaining the battery at the fully charged level.In the meantime I would try another ammeter.
