carb adjustment - idleair mixture adjust screw

This may seem like a simple question but when you turn the idle air mixture adjust screw on the carburetor in, (clockwise) are you making the mixture richer or leaner?I have a carb that sometimes stalls when stopping quickly or slowing down to turn a corner and preparing to shift into second gear.I already have the idle set up a little higher than normal and I am wondering if adjusting the mixture a little richer would cure this situation.
