Hi Frank,Vol 1, page 23, "How to Restore Your Model A" says use graphite grease. To insure a smooth ride on a rough road it is important not only to "lubricate" front springs, but also to grind a ski-nose shape on bottom ends of springs so they do not dig in & wear into the spring leaf below; and also to grind and smooth out where upper leaf wore a trapezoid shaped part on the upper part of the leaf below.
Because highway splashed water and water hose cleaning removes lubrication, the last front spring I put together I used water resistant marine grease, (purchased at a boat dealer), and sprinkled on the flaked graphite prior to assembly. Regular oil washes off quicker than grease.

Don't be surprised if you get as many different lubrication answers and opinions to equal the number of ingredients and spices in a Louisiana gumbo.
Best Wishes, Henry.
