: Is there a way to test the generator field coils and armature
: before assembly?Where should there be continuity between the armature windings at the commutator?
: I've got several armatures in various states & I don't want to burn up the generator with a bad one. I'd also like to know that the field coil is installed correctly & not shorted out to ground or wired in backwards.
Sure...the tool needed is a growler...but you won't find one at any local shops...only place that would have one is a rebilder and they probably wouldent want to test your stuff...but...probably any High School that has a Auto Shop has one..(common for HS shops) and I know any Community College program would have one...and would be happy to test it for you...we frequently have folks bring in things like that...its good training for the students...and we teachers get bored testing the same things over and over again....makes teaching much more life-like when we get "new-meat"...anyhow
call yer auto shop teacher...tell em I sent ya...they usually Model A type guys....Professor J Rapose,Oxnard College
