: I hate to ask such basic questions, but I baught a 29 Tudor about 6 months ago, and since then have baught several books on restoration. Now, how about all you fine folks telling me the basics about starting the engine! Where do I set the various controls, and what do i do with them after she warms up? Also, something even more basic, how much air should be in the tires? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi Bill
Tim Wildley told you where to get the instruction book but, here are some answers to your questions. On the steering column, the left lever is for advancing/ retarding the spark. Push the lever all the way up to retard, pull all the way down to advance. The lever on the right is the hand throttle. All the way up closes the throttle and all the way down opens it. On the dash passsenger side is the choke/ carburetor jet adjusting rod.To start the engine, turn on the gas, and according to Ford instructions, place the spark all the way to the retard position.Turn the carburetor adjustment about one full turn to the left (adjust this according to how your engine responds).Pull the throttle lever 3 or 4 knotches open, if your knotches are worn, whose aren`t, just pull it between 1/3 to 1/2 down. Pull the choke lever and push the starter button down. When the engine starts release the starter and release the choke.Sometimes you only have to pull and release the choke instead of holding it open to start it.After the engine starts advance the spark all the way and when the engine warms adjust the gas mixture to lean it out.BE SURE TO RETARD THE SPARK when starting as you can damage the starter when starting the engine with the spark fully advanced.
Get the book Tim mentioned. There`s a lot of info in it that Ford supplied the original owners with.> >Tires carry 35 lbs.
Have fun.
