headlights

Hello from Michigan; birthplace of the most remarkable automobile ever concieved.
I have done the following
Switched bulbs with each other.
Rotated bulbs 180 degrees in the socket.
Switched sockets.
Switched wire leads.
Laughed a little.
I even switched reflectors.
The left headlight bulb is only dim orange, the right is a bright white.
The wiring harness is new and appears O.K.
What am i missing?Thanks,
