Hmm!Looks good and I never thought of this.
It makes sense considering the relative softness of the brass of the float versus the hardness of the steel needle.Think of all the vibrations necessary to wear to this point.
I suppose you can use solder to fill in the dimple so you won't have to bend the bracket "galley west" to get the float seam parallel to the flange.
I plan on checking mine tonite.
