Dave-
The early equalizer brake system used a different cross-shaft support at the ends where they cross the frame. These supports were two pieces but did not have any bushing. They allowed the cross shaft ends to slide a little in a front to back direction as part of the equalization action. The support piece closest to the frame was a thin spring steel plate which kept a little tension on the cross shaft to keep it from rattling, and can be reproduced from a piece of steel strapping the right width. The lower piece of the support was heavier steel and formed the channel which the crossshaft could slide in.Just apply a little grease to the shaft. You can find pictures of these parts in the Ford Parts Price List as A-2479-AR and A-2478-AR.
Good luck - properly restored the early brake system works great!

: I have a '28AR.The brake cross-shaft does not have any bushings under the outboard support brackets.Should I add split bronze bushings or would bushings interfere with the "equalizing" design of this early AR cross-brake shaft?Your thoughts would be appreciated!
