Eric,
Regarding your carb on the 29. The gaskets between the halves of the carb are not to prevent leaking of the gas in your case. I would suggest rechecking the height of the float in the carb. Also you may have dirt in the needle valve which prevents it from seating properly. The backfiring is a result of raw gas getting into the hot exhaust system. I would also as you surmised, check the timing. Back firing and gas running all over is a disaster waiting to happen. Kennimannin@phsys.org

: 1) The carburator leaks like crazy... mostly from the
: bottom around the mounting bolt, but also around the main seal. I've replace whatever gaskets and washers that were there when I took it apart... and its better... but still far
: too much leaking to be normal.

: 2) its running great... but whenever I cut the ignition it backfires... but not right away... it takes a few seconds... and then BOOM... or is that BANG? Could this be the result of
: advancing the timing lever too much? Or what else?

: Thank you!

: Eric
