JW,
The cotter is to keep the hole clear so oil drips from the rear main bearing drain out and don't accumulate and get to the clutch.

The flat washer doesn't sound familiar. If you can give the exact dimensions - i.d., o.d., thickness, I should be able to tell you where/if it belongs.

Could it be the special thick, notched washer used to retain the u-joint to the rear of the trans?

Regards,
Marco

: I was wondering whatthe cotter pin that is at the bottom of my flywheel housing is there for??

: I also found a flat washer in my bag of boolts that I took off my flywheel. It has been a while and I dont remember seeing it. I may go around the piolt bearing?? Any help is appreciated. I have looked in several books and have seen this part.
