Shipping short block

I have a block that needs main bearings poured, and after checking around I have found that most of the shops that I would care to deal with are out of pratical driving range.
Checking out shipping costs on truck lines, etc. surprised me because of the cost. It could be that I have run into one of the hidden costs of Model A fun and games.
Does anyone know of a cheap way of shipping a Model A block and crank shaft?
