: Joe, is there a number on what is left of your original "T" shaped tail light bracket? That might identify it in one way or another, especially if the number started with T-xxxxx.

I checked that and there is no number present. From the ability of someone to weld to it I would assume that it is a forged bracket (i.e. unlikely to be a more modern cast repro) The outline of the bracket itself shouts "Ford Production."It is the "spittin image" of the bracket pictured in the "Model A as Henry built it" book, except for the added piece instead of a solid triangular shaped mount.

Looking at the two hole portion of the bracket mount area, it is apparent that it was originally designed to be two holes.

:I believe this is why Marco suggested that the drum style lamp would be too high.

Marco's comments seemed logical compared to the relative positioning of the lamp bodies on the brackets. That is why I checked to see if it was possible.(It is, but close, within one inch of the underside of the pickup bed understructure.)Do-able, yes.The way it was done, not sure.

I can't say whether I have the early type bed understructure mentioned in the earlier postings or the later type.Likely the later type considering the March '29 date on the firewall. There is about a 1-1/4 inch gap between the bed and the back of the cab which might lead one to believe it is the later version.I know a shield was used to cover this area later in the truck production (mine doesn't have it).

Another item I noted in my most recent investigations: Jim Schild's book has several engineering drawing "outlines" of the Ford AA trucks which include several of the square cab trucks.I note that the drawings all show the "drum" taillight but on a very different bracket (likely the reformed and bent bracket mentioned earlier)Nowhere did I see the pickup type bracket as it might be applied to the AA.

: When will the mystery be solved? Stay tuned...

I'm glad (surprised actually) to see people had an interest to look back in the postings to my latest reply.Perhaps more discussion in this area will resolve it.

Best regards,
Joe
