Joe, is there a number on what is left of your original "T" shaped tail light bracket? That might identify it in one way or another, especially if the number started with T-xxxxx.
Aside from the mysterious early bracket that we have yet to identify, there are two other brackets used on the pickups which place the tail lamp and license plate behind the rear fender. One of these is for the drum type lamp and the other is for the teacup lamp. The important note here is that these two lamps are mounted in different ways. On the early drum lamp, the bracket mounts to the license frame and the lamp sits above. The teacup style lamp mounts directly to the bracket with screws through the body of the lamp, and the license plate bracket is sandwiched between. This effectively puts the drum style lamp at a higher elevation relative to the teacup style. I believe this is why Marco suggested that the drum style lamp would be too high.
It is also my understanding that the 3rd hole on the tail light bracket was not used at all, but I don't remember where I read that. I'll have to check my books again.
When will the mystery be solved? Stay tuned...
