Houdaille shock identification

I was recently given six Houdaille shock absorbers that are supected of being Model A vintage.On quick examination some appear to be slightly different, ie, no lock ring, different overall resevoir height.. Can anyone enlighten me as to how to get a positive ID on these???Thanks Best regards, Steve
