Kevin,

Chances of it being the early Double venturi carb is slim as most (but not all) had the early choke lever.I can't describe the difference since I haven't worked with the early carbs much.

As Glen said, there are a few options available for the throttle shaft problem. All the repro shafts simulate the later steel type.If you decide to replace the shaft with a new one keep the original or pass it on to someone that will restore it.It's very difficult to build up and turn the old shaft. The bushings available to bring the housing back to standard are good quality and work slick! To compensate for the remaining wear on the shaft, cut a strip of brass shim stock and wrap the shaft in the bushing area and experiment for proper fit.Brass shim stock is cheap and I keep small sheets of .001", .003", .005", .007", around for a variety of little projects.Although the shim solution may sound "Mickey Mouse", it works well and lasts longer than silver solder on the shaft.

The fun never ends!!!
