: Hi fellows,

: For a while now I have been complaining that my car stalls when I come to a quick stop. This is especially common when I am stopping while going down a grade.

: Now... I turned the idle MIXTURE screw ccw 1/4 turn (richens mixture). That helped quite a bit but it did not SOLVE the problem. Now I just installed a John Deere paper air filter (P/N AM108242).This air filter is taller than the air maze type paper filter. Some say the air maze size filter is too small and therefore too restrictive which causes the car to run too rich.To install the JD filter you must install a larger and longer retaining bolt in your air maze.

: I had been running a JD filter before but it had gotten dirty so I removed it.I was running the car without a filter for a while (dumb) and that's when the stalling got really bad.

: Now that I installed a new filter the stalling has been eliminated. The filter must make the car run a bit richer and that corrected the problem.

: What do you guys think? How about some feedback.

: Thanks.

: Brian

Brian,

Are you using a zenith of the Model "A" flavor? If so, CCW of the MIXTURE screw leans the ratio, to reichen it must be turned CW. This screw only adds air. This might clear up some missunderstanding.

Don't know about the air filter only that an "unbalanced condition can occur when they become dirty due to the bowl vent going to the atmosphere rather than the filter. Thanks for the filter tid bit. What are using for the attachment? most of the ones I see, the cast aluminum, fit too loose to the carb to be worth while.

But what the hey, if your set up works who's to say anything,
You're the one with the big grin tooling around... looky, I stop, no stall, ah life is sooo good:-).
