Hi Mr Smith
There is no way to fix a main bearing that has spun loose.The bearings will have to be repored and the block will require line boring. The crank should be polished(or turned if pitted)
before the bearings are poured. Some shops are boring the block and fitting late model inserts.I favor the poured bearings like Henry put out. When correctly done they will last a long time.I hate to give you and the young man bad news but to try to patch this problem will result in more damage to the motor. I'm glad to see a young man involved in an "A" project and if I can help in any way, E-mail me. I bought my first 'A" in 1945 and have worked on them since then. Best of luck, Ben Jenkinson
