There's no universal concensus about the minimum, I've gone to 0.060 under without problems in the short term, and my present engine (that I haven't run yet) is 0.040 on the mains and 0.030 on the crank.

While I don't know of any source for new cranks, you can have the cranks hard chromed up a couple of undersizes.Your 0.030 should be restorable to at least 0.010. Check with your local repair houses and/or trucking companys for thger recommended source. It's Bailey Crankshaft in Dallas, although He sends the chroming out and only does the grinding after.

It ain't cheap, though, but the reports are good on the reliability of the process.I'm not too impressed with the luck folks have had with metalspray techniques, or welding for building up journals.Make sure the crank is magnafluxed particularly in the area of the center main for cracking before considering any chrome work. If you're going to add counterbalances do it before chroming, and magnaflux after the balances are added.
