: Yes the Dodge Brothers made parts for Ford until 1914.They stopped around then to make carsfor themselves.

: After Ford intoduced the V8 there wasn't much interest in 4 cyl. engines until the 70's when gas became expensive in the U.S.Though a few U.S. low cost car makers like Willy's made 4 cyl. cars until the 1940's.

: Hope this is of help.

hi geo,

i heard a folklore story years ago-- maybe true, maybe not--

so the story goes, mr ford was being pressed by some of his dealers to offer a six, as the competition was promoting the sixes as far superior to the "obsolete" four cylinder cars.

mr ford called some of his best engineers to his office and ordered the V8 project development started, saying something to the effect of "well, boys, if the *%$#%&^&%#% public wants cylinders, we'll give them %&#*%#%@$ cylinders !!!"
