G'Day Michael,
Here's the answer to your question straight out of the Judging Standards.
a)Very early axles had no weld @ centre flare & no weld running legthwise (approx first 1000 vehicles.
b)After approx 1000 vehicles & continuing through March 1929 the weld faced forwards & the housing had forged shock absorber balls.
c)The weld faced upward commencing in November 1928 to end of production.
d)Commencing in March 1929 through March 1930 the weld faced downward.
As was mentioned in one of the postings, use what you have if you're not going to show the car.
Regardz
DJ.

: I recently took my '30 rear end apart for inspection and some minor rework (seals, gaskets,etc.).I used Les Andrews book for reference and everything went Ok.

: One aspect of this assenbly still is a question. In the book, it states that the left axle housing weld should face the front of the car.Mine faces downward.

: This rear end seems to perform OK and I'm curious about the weld business.

: Would appreciate some comments of this.

: Thanks, Michael D
