Pat,

I am no expert on Model "A's" but I have heard from many people that sustained speeds over 50-55 mph are hard on the engine.Sure, the car should and will run faster than that, but it may cause premature bearing failure.

What I am told

The weak point of a Model "A" engine is the babbit bearings and the light crankshaft. At higher speeds, the crank begins to flex and it puts extra strain on the main bearings. In other words, it pounds them out of round.

This is why Ford beefed up the lower end of the Model "B" four-cylinder.

Now this information is not the product of my own analysis but I'd rather not risk the expense of finding out on my own.

I'm sure others can support or refute this theory and I'd be interested in what they have to say also.

At any speed, enjoy your car!!!!!

Brian
